NYPD Violates a Judiciary Order

As I’m writing this the NYPD has refused to obey a judiciary ruling to let protesters back into the park. The NYPD is lined up outside holding batons and in riot gear. There are suspicions that plain clothes officers infiltrated the crowds last night to provoke violence.

Occupy Toronto has also received an eviction order. Portland and Oakland have faced similar evictions. Here is the press release outlining the rights of the protesters in New York per legal injunction: http://nlgnyc.org/2011/11/15/press_rel_libert/

Bloomberg is giving another press conference saying that he didn’t get the legal injunction. The chatter on police radio last night hinted at the NY National Guard coming to assist the NYPD. Bloomberg just used the threat of the National Guard, as well. He also mentions that tents cannot be protected under free speech which should be overturned in any court. But will that help? Why does this mayor view himself as a king above the law? There has been no mention of restitution for almost $80k in damaged property. All of that property including the tents an appendage of free speech.

There has been an unsubstantiated rumor of a curfew being enforced tonight in New York. The multiple evictions are starting to look like national sweeps.

Vanessa Guillen: MST Martyr?

Vanessa Guillen was bludgeoned with a hammer, on base, in the armory, her remains were removed in a box. Several people saw, now deceased due to suicide, Aaron Robinson struggling with the box the night Vanessa disappeared. Guillen was a private and Robinson was a specialist. They both worked in the armory but in the army that small rank difference means a lot, and many, (if not most) exploit that.

Prison Abolition in the Age of Coronavirus

In the Prison Abolition Movement, it is a well-known fact that Police have a shared history with Slave Catching. There was a need to capture runaway slaves in metropolitan areas before that there was no need for police. Most of the lynchings of Jim Crow South were well attended and represented by police and how enforcement is distributed today is reflection of that history. Too many police and prison guards are former military to ignore the link to the prison industrial complex.

  1. Good job keeping everyone up to date with the OWS movement.

It should also be mentioned that Bloomberg is not only acting as king above the law, but king above our Constitutional Amendments as well. He made a statement earlier today saying “We (assuming he means the NYPD) reserve the right to violate your 4th Amendment rights”.

Someone should let Bloomberg know that being a billionaire Mayor does not put you above the United States Constitution.

    Keep fighting the good fight!

  2. Andrew, you said someone should let Bloomberg know he’s not above the Constitution? Your wish has been answered.

Anonymous just declared war on Bloomberg!

  3. I read an article in the New York Times today that called Bloomberg a “champion of the first amendment.” These media organizations are destroying our democracy. I bet the judge that ruled against OWS reads New York Times primarily.
